Как вставить строку в фрагменте HTML

Я хотел бы вставить в HTML-фрагмент более читаемый бит в определенной позиции в фрагменте HTML - скажем, после 10-го слова. Затем я с помощью JavaScript скрою текст после «читать дальше» и покажу его только щелчком.

Часть JavaScript в порядке. Что касается части PHP.

Сначала это казалось простым, но проблема в том, что теги испортили количество слов и усечение. Поэтому мне нужно закрыть любой открытый тег, который закрывает экземпляр выше «read more».
